Mr Wallet

Preparing your file before importing it into Mr Wallet

Mr Wallet imports CSV, TSV, XLSX and XLS files up to 10 MB, auto-detects encoding and delimiter, and filters out duplicates before anything is permanently saved. This guide covers how to prepare your bank export so your first import goes smoothly.

Export from your bank’s portal

Most banks offer a CSV or Excel export of your statements from their online portal. Download the period you need — import accepts up to 20,000 rows per file, well beyond typical everyday use.

One thing to watch: the date format

When both the day and the month are 12 or lower on every row of a file, it’s impossible to guess whether the format is dd/mm/yyyy or mm/dd/yyyy — Mr Wallet will ask you to confirm rather than risk silently swapping day and month across your entire history.

The preview before saving

Nothing is written to the database until you confirm the preview: it separates rows to import, detected duplicates (by fingerprint, checked against your existing transactions and the rest of the file), and rows with errors. You stay in control until the very end.

Reusing the mapping

The first time, you map your file’s columns to a transaction’s fields (date, amount, label, category). That mapping can be saved as a template: your next import from the same bank automatically recognizes the columns.
